Letter From the Education Secretary

January 29, 2026/in Uncategorized/by Erica Tapp

We are proud to share that Bridget Phillipson, the Secretary of State for Education, has officially recognized Saracens Broadfields for our “excellent outcomes”. Our school is now ranked among the very best in the country for the progress of our disadvantaged pupils during the 2024/25 year.

In a letter to Ms Keane and her team, the Secretary of State praised the hard work of our children and the dedication of our staff. She highlighted that our success shows what is possible when “ambition and commitment come together”. Moving forward, we have been invited to share our best practices with other schools.

Congratulations to all our pupils and staff for this incredible national achievement!

English Speaking Board Success

December 17, 2025/in Uncategorized/by Erica Tapp

Huge congratulations to our Year 5s for completing their English Speaking Board (ESB) assessments this week.

The examiner was very impressed with their hard work and confidence. Every pupil spoke clearly and represented Saracens Broadfields perfectly. Public speaking can be nerve-racking, but our pupils showed great confidence and skill.

We are so proud of your achievements! Thank you to the teachers and parents for supporting the children during their preparation.

Christmas Market

December 15, 2025/in Uncategorized/by Erica Tapp

The Broadfields School Association hosted a spectacular Christmas market to help raise funds for the school.

It was a truly wonderful afternoon, bringing together many families from our community for some festive fun.

Attendees enjoyed a variety of stalls, games, and delicious treats. A huge highlight was Santa’s magical grotto, where children got to meet the man in red.

Thank you to everyone who attended and supported this fantastic event. To find out more about our wonderful Broadfields School Association, click here.

National Portrait Gallery

October 23, 2025/in Uncategorized/by Erica Tapp
Some of our year 3 children enjoyed an inspiring visit to The National Portrait Gallery in Trafalgar Square.

On the visit we concentrated our attention on 3 portraits:

  • Queen Elizabeth I
  • Queen Elizabeth II
  • Malala Yousafzai
Using the portrait of Queen Elizabeth I as our muse, we completed right hand drawing, left hand drawing, continuous line drawing and a blind drawing. We also learnt how the artist had conveyed Elizabeth’s power and wealth in the portrait.

As we looked at the portait of Malala Yousafzai we learnt how she stood up to the taliban and nearly died for her convictions about girls’ rights to an education.

These broadening minds trips are so special. And it’s not only the staff who think so. One of the children remarked, “I wish this day could keep on repeating!”

Prehistoric Planet at Lightroom, Kings Cross

October 7, 2025/in Uncategorized/by Erica Tapp

A group of pupils from Year 4 gained a deeper understanding of what life would have been like in prehistoric times when they experienced the immersive projections at ‘Lightroom’ in Kings Cross.

The rumbling sound effects and to scale dinosaurs certainly left an impression! It was amazing standing next to the gigantic dinosaurs to get a sense of their enormity.

A highlight was watching a T-rex hunt other dinosaurs in a forest. And then eating the packed lunches the parents had hunted and gathered for the children from the supermarket!

Launch Day Party!

October 6, 2025/in Uncategorized/by Erica Tapp

On 1st October Broadfields Primary School joined Saracens Multi-Academy Trust and became Saracens Broadfields.

We continue to be the same fantastic school we were before: the same fantastic teachers and children and lessons and fields and community. We now just have a bigger famiy and a new set of values.

Our new cousins are Saracens High School in Colindale and Saracens Bell Lane in Hendon. Our aunty and uncle are Saracens Rugby Club and Saracens Multi-Academy Trust.

And everyone in our family shares the same values: discipline, hard work, honesty and humility.

We had so much fun at our launch party: our choir sang, the Mayor of Barnet cut the ribbon, Mr Archibald and Ms Keane shared a very official looking handshake and we had a massive street party with music to dance to and delicious food to eat!

Click here to find out more about our launch day. And click here for more information about Saracens Multi-Academy Trust.

Kew Gardens

October 2, 2025/in Uncategorized/by Erica Tapp

Our Year 4 pupils visited Kew Gardens on an absolutely glorious day!

The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, is a world-renowned botanical garden and a UNESCO World Heritage site in southwest London. It is a global centre for plant research and houses the world’s largest and most diverse collection of living plants. And we got to go there! Wow!

The treetop walkway was a definite highlight, as was the new Carbon Garden that was created at net zero carbon emissions.

The children did observational drawings of plants in 4 different ways: strong hand; weak hand; continuous line drawing; and blind drawing. They also made their own natural ephemeral sculptures inspired by other artists.

We considered the visit a resounding success when one of our pupils exclaimed: “I’m definitely coming here with my family!”

Houses of Parliament

October 2, 2025/in Uncategorized/by Erica Tapp

Saffron Class, in Year 6, enjoyed a tour of the Houses of Parliament in Westminster!

Seeing the famous green leather seats in the House of Commons was really special and gave the children a better understanding of government and politics and how decisions are debated and agreed upon in the United Kingdom.

Travelling to and from central London is always a highlight, as is having packed lunch ‘on the road!’

Our children behaved impeccably and we look forward to our very own alumni becoming Members of Parliament themselves one day and acting for the good of local residents.

Summer Fair

July 15, 2025/in Uncategorized/by broadfields

Our Summer Fair was a fantastic success and brought our school community together in the best way.

Families enjoyed delicious food from the stalls, exciting games, bouncy castles, and plenty of laughter all around.

Mr Archibald bravely faced his final “Wet the Head” soaking, much to the delight of everyone—though perhaps not his own!

A huge thank you to the Broadfields School Association (BSA) for organising the event, and to everyone who came along and helped make it such a wonderful day. We can’t wait for next year’s fair!

End of Year trips

July 15, 2025/in Uncategorized/by broadfields

Our end-of-year trips have given all our children wonderful experiences to celebrate their hard work.

  • Reception loved their visit to Willows Farm, meeting animals and enjoying fun activities, while EYFS were delighted when the farm came to them!
  • Year 1 explored Paradise Wildlife Park, discovering animals and exciting exhibits.
  • Year 2 had an amazing time riding thrilling roller coasters at Gulliver’s Land.
  • Year 3 saw animals from all over the world at Whipsnade Zoo.
  • Year 4 reconnected with nature through creative and interactive sessions with the London Bushcraft Team, followed by a school sleepover.
  • You can read about Year 5s residential with Fellowship Afloat in a separate news story

What special memories for the children and a wonderful way to finish an excellent school year.
