National Portrait Gallery
Some of our year 3 children enjoyed an inspiring visit to The National Portrait Gallery in Trafalgar Square.
On the visit we concentrated our attention on 3 portraits:
- Queen Elizabeth I
- Queen Elizabeth II
- Malala Yousafzai
Using the portrait of Queen Elizabeth I as our muse, we completed right hand drawing, left hand drawing, continuous line drawing and a blind drawing. We also learnt how the artist had conveyed Elizabeth’s power and wealth in the portrait.
As we looked at the portait of Malala Yousafzai we learnt how she stood up to the taliban and nearly died for her convictions about girls’ rights to an education.
These broadening minds trips are so special. And it’s not only the staff who think so. One of the children remarked, “I wish this day could keep on repeating!”
