We strive to create a stimulating, attractive and challenging provision to develop children’s independent learning. We value all children’s cultural inheritance, diversity of language and beliefs and we aim to develop the whole child in an environment that is safe, calm and challenging. Our children will be stimulated and nurtured to become competent, curious, inquisitive, confident, independent and cooperative learners, who feel supported to take risks and explore their own learning. We believe that providing an education that does all of this gives children the best chance to become well-rounded, happy individuals, ready to succeed in an ever-changing world
Children at Saracens Broadfields experience the seven areas of learning through a balance of whole class/group teaching and play based learning. This is through the children’s interests, topics, themes and continuous provision activities. Learning is carefully planned by the staff to support:
- Communication and Language Development
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding of the World
- Expressive Arts and Design.
- What made you happy today?
- Did anything worry you today?
- What new things did you learn today?
- Did you watch Newsround today?
At the heart of early education are the Characteristics of Effective Learning—the key behaviours children use as they explore, discover, and grow. For children to thrive, learning must be meaningful, engaging, and rooted in curiosity. When children approach new experiences with energy and enthusiasm, they develop the skills to think critically, explore confidently, and adapt what they’ve learned to different situations.
These attitudes and approaches help children become strong, capable learners. By nurturing these behaviours, we support every child in making progress across all Areas of Learning and Development.
Playing and exploring: Children investigate and experience things, and ‘have a go’. Children who actively participate in their own play develop a larger store of information and experiences to draw on which positively supports their learning
Active learning: Children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties. They are proud of their own achievements. For children to develop into self-regulating, lifelong learners they are required to take ownership, accept challenges and learn persistence.
Creating and thinking critically: Children develop their own ideas and make links between these ideas. They think flexibly and rationally, drawing on previous experiences which help them to solve problems and reach conclusions.
